Cobi and Pick up 3
To prevail in the HUI300 Challenge, a Hui of three or more people must perform a minimum of 300 days of ‘eco-service’ during the year. A day of eco-service represents a minimum day’s contribution to the environment at a watershed or beach, by removing three or more pieces of debris or trash. This is similar to the standard used by Cobi Emery, a young California surfer in his personal Pick-Up-3 campaign to encourage others to keep beaches clean.
Cobi’s own video describes his Pick-Up-3 campaign and how easy it is for surfers or anyone to help make the beach cleaner. As minor as it may seem to just remove three items from a beach, it can make a significant impact if done regularly by a large number of people at critical places.
Each Hui member will get rid of at least 300 pieces of debris from watersheds, beaches, and the oceans, by employing this minimum measure consistently for 100 days a year. And, a qualifying Hui will have a minimum of 300 combined days of eco-service: removing at least 900 pieces of damaging debris in one year by just 3 people!!!
Multiply the environmental benefit of one qualifying Hui by many Hui’s of all sizes, and the potential cumulative effect is truly significant. So remind your Hui members each time they are at a watershed or beach to meet or exceed the minimum eco-service standard towards meeting the HUI300 Challenge!
